Elementarry - a
7.5 m x 4 m folding sports, daysailing, or camping proa

Elementarry and Elementarry camper
We get a lot of requests for smaller
proa designs. Mostly, people want one of three things;
1.) A really fast boat to beat the local beach
cats
2.) A comfortable camper/day sailer
3.) Something people can test the proa concept
on before deciding on a larger version.
So, what have we come up with? Elementarry,
a 7.5 m x 4 m, trailerable sport harryproa that has telescoping beams
and the option of an interchangeable windward hull giving you a versatile
boat that can be used for racing, fast day sailing and camping.
Both Elementarry and the Elementarry camper are schooner
rigged for ease of rigging. The plan is to go from trailer to sailing
in 10 minutes. Sail area (21 sq m), righting moment and weight (160 kgs)
of the camper is the same as a Tornado but more manageable, and with a
much lower centre of effort and longer sailing waterline.

Elementarry in Australia
Rob sold his boat (harrigami prototype) to a guy in Nelson, New Zealand
and will be using the money to build a fast (about 110 kgs) version of
Elementarry (see above: epoxy/carbon with a smaller windward hull) to
give us some practice with the cheap and cheerful moulding technique.
There is a lot of European interest in this boat so we will be producing
them as required. There are a number of items (sails, pop top, trailer)
which are cheaper if we bulk order so we will be looking for customers
(and serious test sailors) for these boats as soon as the first one hits
the water.
Plans for either boat will be available for amateur builders
for $AUS1,000, ex tax.

Brazilian Elementarry camper production
model 'Arripiado'
Lots happening. We have licensed Multicascos
a boatyard in Brazil to build a 7.5m camping proa to be known as 'Arripiado'
(pictured) with telescoping beams and a pop top windward hull which will
provide standing headroom and a double bunk at anchor. They are building
a wooden one to use as a plug. Their charge rate is comparatively low
and these boats will be polyester/coremat so they should be pretty cheap.
We will be promoting these boats in Europe and the Americas and will advise
prices as soon as they are available.
Multicascos is
located in South America, northeast (10 degrees lat. South) Brazil
near
Maceió city (capital of the state of Alagoas). The yards owner Raúl has
35 years experience building boats and to date has been involved in building
more than 70 boats, mainly fiberglass sailboats. Multicascos is Raúl's
third boatyard. The first boat he helped to build was the very first tornado
cat in Argentine around 35 years ago (number of sail A 1). Raúl and Nidia
(architect), with their children, left Argentina many years ago due to
the countries chronic economic problems. They lived aboard their 10 tons
SAMADHI 38’ for 7 years before settling in 'the paradise of Alagoas'.
They have been working in partnership building boats for 23 years. We
are very pleased to be working in association with Raúl, Nidia and
everyone at Multicascos.
Plans for either boat will be available for amateur builders
for $AUS1,000, ex tax.
Arripiado (correct spelling in Portuguese
is Arrepiado) meaning: when the hair stands up e.g. because the person
is scared, exhilarated, or when the skin 'goosebumps' feeling cold (or
perhaps, the feeling one gets when sailing very fast on an Elementarry....ed).
