Week 11: Monday 10th Feb - Friday 14th Feb 2003

If you are wondering what this boat will look like once completed then look at the CAD images in the Walk through cockpit version of Harrigami Gallery.

This week was primarily involved with setting up the two hulls to make the beam sockets. We spent Monday tidying up the workshop and moving benches to accommodate the assembled, 5.25m wide boat.

The windward ends of the beams were used to make the sockets by wrapping them in glass. The side of the cabins were cut out and the beams, complete with the new sockets were slid into position and glassed. Unlike the standard Harrigami this boats beams protrude right across the hull. The hulls were then very accurately positioned so the leeward beam bulkheads could be positioned and glassed. A top and bottom cap completed the socket. As this boat is to have the old style rudders another bulkhead was installed and a rudder box built in. A set of mast bulkheads were then glassed in at 90 and 45 degrees and a mast step bearing glued in place.

Once everything had cured the hulls were moved apart and the beam sockets trimmed back and finished. Friday afternoon saw us positioning the leeward hull decks to check everything fits in place.

Jim and Laurie spent the week fairing the hull and beams.
