Building the walk through cockpit version of Harrigami. Details. It is near the end of a boat building project when things really seem to slow down visually. It's all those little finishing off details that go on and on. That's what this week was about. We made and attached all the cleats that the walkways and seats sit on. We glued on electrical conduit and glassed over to form attachments for the trampolines, made the hatches and entrance door, the rudders and the tillers and many more bits and pieces. The top mast bearing was carefully glued into place on the leeward hull. We also glued large blocks of foam to the forward bulkheads and carved out the bows. We've decided to take a mold from these and offer fiberglass bows as an option to home builders in the future. There is a fair amount of work and skill involved in getting the bows to look just right. Badly formed bows can detract greatly from the overall look of a boat. Supplying them at low cost should keep the boats all looking uniform. Electrical conduit was again used on all the bare edges around the cockpit. By gluing this on, filleting and glassing over we had an attractive edge moulding which also aids in stiffness. The next step is to finish off the detail fairing, paint it all and build the carbon mast. We are now looking forward to launching and test sailing, hopefully in about three weeks.
