Week 16: Monday 17th Mar - Friday 21st Mar 2003

If you are wondering what this boat will look like once completed then look at the CAD images in the Walk through cockpit version of Harrigami Gallery.

The mast building was completed this week by laminating the outside and fabricating all the fittings. We try to build all the fittings ourselves from composites which reduces the costs and keeps metals out of the boat as much as possible. The sail track is electrical conduit glued and glassed to the mast with a slot cut to take the sail slugs. The forestay fitting is a glass rod glued and glassed and the masthead fittings are fabricated on the bench using layers of double bias glass over a simple mould. Final fairing of the mast and fittings will see it totally complete.

The client requested mooring cleats to be installed with a horn cleat somewhere in the centre for spring lines. The positioning of this central cleat was a problem until the client cleverly suggested a hole under the entrance step. This was cut with edges being given the electrical conduit treatment.

Many other detail jobs were completed including the tillers, tiller extensions, anchoring points, door hinges and catches, more final fairing and a start was made on the boom.
