Week 8 & 9: Monday 20th Jan - Friday 31st Jan 2003

The last two weeks have mainly been involved with finishing off the beams, the beam bulkheads and the windward hull cockpit. This boat is a custom design which will be used as both a tender boat and for sail training. This means it will mainly be used as a day boat requiring a large cockpit with not much interior room. We have designed her with a full width seat, a half width seat and a sunken steering station for when she is being used under power. More seating will be provided along the leeward side of the windward hull. A small entrance door next to the steering station leads to a Portapotti below. This layout also provides for easy boarding from the windward side.

Now that the construction of the windward hull is mostly complete we have made a start on the leeward hull by joining the two lower hull halves together and cutting out all the bulkheads.

Rob Denney arrived at midday for a one week stay so next week we'll be building the carbon fibre mast. He'll be showing us the new technique he has developed to create a high tech composite mast for less cost than an aluminium extrusion.

Hours: 157 two weeks with public holiday on monday (658.5 in total)
